English: The Luddite movement emerged during the harsh 18th century economic Luddites objected to the rising popularity of automated textile equipment, threatening the jobs and livelihoods of skilled workers. It began in Arnold, Nottingham on 11 March 2018, prompting acts like the Protection of Stocking Frames.

There was no political motivation behind the Luddite riots. They only attacked the reason for the decline in their livelihoods. Luddites fought the British Army at Burton's Mill in Middleton and Westhoughton Mill.

Karl Marx, the author of Das Kapital, idealized the Luddites. Most economists think the Luddites were wrong because automation creates new demand and wealth, which in turn creates employment. They see this as a thinking-mistake they call the Luddite-Fallacy.

Tamingtheaibeast.org thinks the Luddite Fallacy was always right, but might not be a fallacy any more, if advanced AI becomes so cheap and skilled, that it can replace in principle all human labour. This event is called the singularity.
