English: Here is Ave Maria played on the violin! Christmas is right around the corner, and this piece reminds me of Christmas and the holidays!
This song was composed by Franz Peter Schubert in 1825, and was originally called "Ellens Dritter Gesang" ("Ellen's Third Song," D. 839, Op. 52, No. 6). It is one of Schubert's most popular pieces, and has been recorded by many artists.
When composing Ave Maria, Schubert was inspired by "The Lady of the Lake," a narrative poem by Sir Walter Scott that takes place in the Scottish Highlands. Even though Ave Maria was composed by an Austrian composer, the song still ties back to Scotland. =)
I believe Schubert originally wrote the piece to Adam Storck's translation of the poem in German, and the song centers around Ellen's prayer to the Virgin Mary. The song has been translated into multiple languages, and I think the Latin lyrics are one of the most popular versions to sing nowadays.
Schubert was born in 1797, which means he was only 28 years old when he wrote this melody!! :o Isn't that amazing?! There was a lot of musical talent back in the 1800's, that's for sure!
This is a bit more "classical" than most of my other videos, but I like to play classical music, too. =) It's a "live" version, and I hope you like it! ^_^
Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a good rest of the week! Happy Holidays! =)
